I particularly enjoyed the discussion surrounding the event wherein the Savior washed the feet of his disciples and how this may relate to certain modern-day temple ordinances. I'm studying the New Testament for a BYU-I course and figured I could add in my two cents.

Since living during a worldwide pandemic as a result of the spread of the Covid-19 virus I have gained a new insight in relation to Luke 22 that I'm not sure I would have recognized or been appreciative of previously. When the Savior is gathered together with his disciples it is just hours and days before the culmination of his mortal life and the climax of what he was sent to the earth to do - suffer, atone for our sins, be crucified, and then resurrected. He didn't go sit alone and mourn or otherwise worry about things. He wanted to be surrounded by his friends and his followers. Being together with other like-minded people must have been so comforting and so powerful for the Savior - whether the disciples realized what was going on or not. He was half mortal and therefore he wanted and needed to be around people just as much as the next mortal man or woman.

Living through the pandemic and coming out the other side where in my part of the world the vaccine is being administered and some restrictions are being lifted it feels like we can breathe again. As a result we are being allowed to attend church again in what seems like almost a 'normal' manner. I have never felt such a strong feeling of unity, power, hope, peace as when I did last week our first week back as our entire ward in sacrament meeting. There were talks giving on Mother's Day by members of the Aaronic priesthood and they mostly talked about Christ-like attributes. We rejoiced in our Savior and our mothers. Then we had Relief Society and again we focused on how we see the Savior in our mother figures. There was no denying that the Holy Ghost was present in our meeting house and in that Relief Society room. We talked about our struggles and hardships and our success and joys. It was amazing to be together and feel unity and power. I walked away from the meetings feeling so much peace and not because any of my circumstances had changed or things had magically became easy but it was because of the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and because of my access to that power through gathering together with other saints.

I know that the Savior must have been anxious and worried about what was going to happen next however, he knew for what purpose he was about to suffer and he just wanted to be together with his friends before it all started to go down hill so to speak. I find great comfort in knowing that the Savior understands what it means to feel alone and he has counseled us to gather together and be united. I know that by following the example of the Savior and doing as he did when he was living that we can find peace, joy, and comfort no matter our challenges. And even if we can't be together physically we can still 'gather' together in other ways - sometimes it just has to be a bit more creative. I especially enjoy the 12th chapter of Mark, verse 33, which reads "And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices." Here, I learned that, loving ourselves, our neighbors, and God brings so much more joy to him than any burnt offerings or sacrifices could mean. This is a good testimony to me as to why loving others is one of the greatest commandments. The Lord knows that we can support each other with love and raise each other up. All we need to do is be genuine in our love and give it unto others with all the strength we possess, giving all our heart and soul.Jordan Parrynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7706071451857400135.post-27672066783747458502015-06-19T23:08:42.994-08:002015-06-19T23:08:42.994-08:00You must be careful inasmuch as members use both e...You must be careful inasmuch as members use both electronic scriptures and written scriptures.
Using the official 1979 lds bible, John 14:16 says, "He shall give you another comforter..." with the footnote
denoting that that Comforter is Jesus Christ. Also, I had never thought that a man bearing a pitcher of water would be an unusual sight, but when you pointed it out, it made perfect sense.
